Baraka Ulrich James
Founder/President MASF – Modern American Shooting & Firearms a 501(c)(3) charity/nonprofit education organization
I am a NRA Certified Pistol Instructor, NRA Certified RSO, NRA Life member. I’ve been shooting for 26 years (shooting seriously since 2012) and am a law-abiding citizen, Civilian (no military or Law enforcement experience) 17 years of physical security experience from body-guarding to bouncing/club/private security. Martial artist (Kumdo (Korean Sword-fighting like Kendo), Tae Kwon Do, Muay Thai). I am semi-proficient in Korean/Hangul and less proficient in a few other languages. Full time I am a SME of 18 years in Network Engineering/Network Security Engineering/Cyber Security field. I have been shooting Archery since I was 5 with a re-curve bow, won 6 Archery tournaments and most recently have been shooting a crossbow. I am a hunter with both bow and rifle. I enjoy Anime, Chess, GoStop (Korean card game) and Heavy Metal music \m/!
I created MASF because of a traumatic experience in my life. I lost my father when I was 38 days old; he was a victim of unlawful gun violence. I truly believe that if he had a gun with gun education, training and the proper mindset he may have had a fighting chance against the 8 criminals who murdered him that day. A gun in the hands of someone who is properly trained can become an “equalizer”, especially in a case where the attackers outnumber you or the attacker is of a larger size.
There is a famous quote that relates to this by Samuel Colt “God made man, but I made them equal”.
I believe you and you alone are responsible for your own safety and the safety of your loved ones.
Our goal at MASF is to have every law-abiding American educated and trained to be able to confidently and safely carry a gun daily; to arm them with the proper mindset so that they have the ability and the means to be able to protect themselves and their loved ones. Our hope is that our efforts will make it so that other children do not have to grow up as I did without a parent.

My name is Allen Sams, I have been an outdoorsman and gun enthusiast most of my life. As a young boy growing up in the late 70’s early 80’s we were not allowed to stay in the house. Like most moms in the day, mine wanted us to play outdoors. We grew up building forts, log bridges, dams, makeshift traps, and any manner of things young boys dream up.
When age permitted the gun entered my life. I grew up seeing my father and uncles coming home with their harvests from successful hunts and always looked forward to the day I could participate. I was bought a bb gun, taught safety and fundamentals, moved to a 22lr later a 30-30 lever action, and so on. It wasn’t until 2012 that my firearms education truly began, that was the year of my 1st formal class by a top notch trainer. Since then I try to train 3 to 4 times a year with a professional firearms instructor and take those tools gained in class and train on my own or with a close group of friends once a week or so , I have also started getting into local competition as well.
It was Baraka James, president of MASF who got me to my 1st class, we had been friends for many years but then he created MASF. With MASF we share a common goal bordering on an obsession, our goal is to get everyone that decides to own a firearm to get the training, education, and mindset required to be safe and possess the ability to protect themselves, their families, and others when the need arises. It is our hope and intention to make a physical home for MASF and provide training, by hosting vetted trainers in all manner of personal protection as well as a scholarship program to help those that can’t afford the training to receive it at our facility or a trainer in their area.
